Press Release
PERFORMANCE June 13th — June 15th 2011
Russian-American performance artist and photographer DARIA MARCHIK in collaboration with ART MOSCOW held the performance installation in the city of Basel.
The Russian Revival is a performance installation was happening all over ART BASEL featuring living sculptures. The viewer is asked to interact with the sculpture and the sculpture acted back.
DARIA MARCHIK Daria Marchik features in The Russian Revival local performance artists styled in Tata Christine costumes. Though based on the traditional Burlesque art, the new form encompasses a wider range of performance styles; Neo-burlesque acts can be anything from classic striptease to modern dance to theatrical mini-dramas to comedic mayhem. For Marchik, Burlesque does not end in the performance act it transgresses music, performance art and film. The artist has an interest in sub-cultural groups and individuals on the margins of society, where the artist reveals a remarkable capacity to provide an empathetic glimpse into semi-private worlds through intimate depictions of people and herself as model and their surroundings.
